New treated timber piles were driven to a depth of about 40 ft with a refusal criteria of 4 blows/in. (20000 ib-ft hammer). Pile diameter=12" and the soil is expected to be sitly sand materials. The piles will be embedded 9" into pile caps.
I am concerned with the appearance of cracks on the pile butts as shown in the attachment. The cracks seem to be of intrinsic nature and not developed by driving. I would appreciate feedback on the appearance of the piles and if such appearance would be a common problem in timber piles.
