Please, please help me here…I have a combined sprinkler/standpipe system with a 6” looped main located in the first floor and risers located in the staircases. The standpipe is a Class III system ,the first floor has exposed ceiling and it is a 4 storeys building. NFPA 14 Article 6.1.2.2. states that “Standpipes and lateral piping supplied by standpipes shall be located in enclosed exit stairways or shall be protected by a degree of fire resistance equal to that required for enclosed exit stairways in the building in which they are located”. My question is : do I have to enclose the 6” loop main on the ground floor in an fire rated enclosure? Our building code asks only for the standpipe risers to be located in an exit stair shaft or a service shaft and nothing else. Thank you
