NFPA 20 7-5.2.1 Water Pressure Control

According to NFPA 20 7-5.2.1 (a), each controller needs to have its own individual pressure sensing line. The company I'm working for now has a system where the lines for the jockey and fire pump are tied in together, and they need to be separated.

The system was installed in 2006. I'm hoping to have the company who installed this system correct the situation on their own dime, but I don't know when this code went in to effect (before or after they installed the system).

Does anyone know when this code went in to effect?

Oldest copy of NFPA 20 that I have is 1993 edition and it reads the same way 7-5.2.1 (a) For all pump installations (including jockey pumps) each controller shall have its own individual pressure sensing line.

As far as what code was in effect at the time of your installation you would have to find out from the AHJ what version of NFPA 20 was adopted, but it's a pretty safe bet that the separate sensing lines were code.

Given the 9 year gap from system installation to now you may be hard pressed to get the company to come back and fix the deficiency on their dime.

Thanks for the quick response Chevy. I know it's a long shot, but my current vendor threw out a quote of around $800 to put in a separate line. I'm hoping to shame the original installer in to making it right.

Not a problem. $800 to make it right is a reasonable price, but if you can get the original contractor to fix it even better.
