Hello Everyone,

I have a questions regarding the size of my discharge piping for my fire sprinkler system. The question relates to section 4.18.6.2.1 of the NFPA 20 which states " If the pipe ( Discharge piping) employs more than one elbow, the next larger pipe shall be used."

My system will most likely have more than one elbow on the discharge side. The pipe size is currently 6'' as per section 4.26. The underground line that will be traveling from the fire skid to the building is 8''. Will i need to immediately increase the size of my pipe to 8'' to pass code, or can it be increased after all my discharge fittings. Ie; relief valve and test line ect.?

Thanks so much for your help : )

That is sizing for the relief valve discharge, not the entire discharge piping.

Are you experienced in fire sprinkler system design, or is this your first run at a pump? If this is your first, you may want to get some local help because these can be really expensive mistakes.

Any chance of seeing pictures of the fire damage to the turbine?
