I have a building where a Class IIIB liquid is stored in several large Intermediate Bulk Containers, each with a volume of 5000L (approx. 1300 gal).

Chapter 16 appears to limit the volume of IBC's to 3000L (793 gal) when providing sprinkler protection criteria.

Where would one find sprinkler design criteria for an IBC with a volume of 5000L, filled with Class IIIB liquid?

FM Data Sheet 7-29 MAY have design info.

Plastic or metal packaging? Is the product stored at atmospheric pressure or pressurized?

stookeyfpe - To the best of my knowledge, it will be metal IBC's full of lubricating oil that is pumped into farm equipment (combines, tractors) at a repair garage. Atmospheric pressure.

LCREP - thanks for the suggestion, I will have a look at 7-29.

If the package is steel, you don't have an Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) because it exceeds the 3,000 L volume limit in 49 CFR Parts 171-179. If it's intended for transportation, you have a steel portable tank with a nominal volume of 1,320 gallons (5,000 L). See NFPA 30 Table 16.5.2.2 for protection criteria.

I was wondering if the issue was that I was simply using the wrong terminology. Thanks so much for your assistance!
