1. Working on plant but without NFPA 58 on hand and had a question.

2. NFPA 58, is there a clause to define the safety distance of 25 Kg LPG tank from heat source, or what is the minimum safety distance.

3. Thanks for the help, cheers.

Is this what you are looking for?

3.6.5.1
Vaporizing burners shall be installed outside of buildings. The minimum distance between any container and a vaporizing-burner shall be in accordance with following table.

Container Water Capacity Minimum Distance Required
gal m3 ft m
<500 <1.9 10 3.0
501-2000 1.9-7.6 25 7.6
>2000 >7.6 50 15.0

Dear Guidoo

1. Thank you for your reply, if the cylinder and burner are located indoor with good ventilation, how shall the requirement be to comply with NFPA 58?

2. Is it possible using only distance as safe precaution without any dividing wall if the surrounding temperature is below 50 degree C, and what will the safe distance be?

3. Thank you.

I don't think the NFPA 58 will give a straightforward answer here.
In general NFPA 58 does not allow you to install a LPG cylinder indoors, although there are exceptions. If one of these exceptions apply, NFPA 58 in general does not allow you to have a burner indoors as well, but again there are exceptions...
Looking at the importance of the issue (safety!), and the fact that I do not know all the required details (e.g. purpose for having the LPG cylinder), I am afraid the only option here is that you try to get a copy of NFPA 58 at site...
Also note that NFPA 58 only gives minimum distances between the container and vaporizers or tank heaters, so no distances between container and other burners.

1. Thank you and I will just try my luck.

2. Thanks and Cheers.

3. Hope to hear from you and know you better, I am from Singapore.
