NFPA 70 (NEC): Safe Work Distances earlier than 1967 2

Our plant was installed in 1966, with startup in 1967. We are making changes to our process which requires several changes to pumps/agitators, etc....which in turn affect the Motor starters. We found several issues with the buckets themselves, and are planning on replacing these (most starters only have 2 overloads, and many did not have primary fuses for the CPTs). We understand the replacement for these, as we are ordering new buckets (GE 7700...still buy replacements).

However, our concern is that the safe work distances per the latest NEC code of 3'6" for the 480V MCC are not met. We aren't moving the MCC, but now we questioning what minimum distance was at the time of install. We have no where else to put an MCC (at least something to meet schedule and costs for the project). I am leaning toward recommending relocating the MCC, as I suspect it didn't meet the code to begin with, but I have nothing to go by.

Anyone had access to earlier codes?

I so desperately need to have better Googling skills! I could not find it.

Thanks!
