With respect to the requirements of MFPA 72, can anyone recall if the standard addresses the use of pass codes or passwords to cancel the response of fire services? It seems that as of recent, monitoring companies are calling the protected premises and asking for a pass code or pass word to verify if there is anything. Once the monitoring company receives the "proper password/passcode" they are then advising the fire dispatch that the FD can disregard.

Your best bet is to consult the local fire marshal of the area where the project is located. Anything said here will be just an opinion, worth nothing if the AHJ does not agree to it.

The current edition NFPA 72 Chapter 26, indicates the code responsibilities for monitoring facilities receiving and re-transmitting alarm and supervisory signals. The local FD dispatching centers where signals are re-transmitted have responsibilities and policies to inform responding emergency agencies. How FD policies direct personnel in that response to a facility where a cancelled alarms is received lies with the responding agencies.

We still send someone to verify and gather details and in the event the facility becomes a problematic one with cancelling alarm notifications, we have policies in place for delaying FD notifications in accordance with adopted fire code and ordinances.
