NFPA 79 - Testing and Verification

Hello,

As part of our machine commissioning at my company we perform Hi-Pot and IR testing on our machines. I have been taught to always bypass any electrical components that have a UL or CE mark. The reason being these items were already tested at their factory. Since we use all UL or CE marked components I am pretty much just testing the wire internal to our control cabinets and through conduit runs. I am just curious
if others do the same.

Also, Does anyone know of a training course in regards to NFPA 79 chapter 18?

The main reason for bypassing the previously tested components is that if they have active protection then they may give a false positive (fail) on your test; the specifications for those parts may provide more detail if you are interested.

This is standard practice.

As you said, you are "testing the wire internal to our control cabinets and through conduit runs" because that is what has never been tested.
