nfpa small arms fire protection requirements

i have a project that owner will be storing ammunition on pallets on the floor there looking to store 60,000 to 80,000 pounds of ammo. I have read thru nfpa 495 but do not see any mention of density

would oh group 2 be statisfactory?

Based on NFPA 13, 2013 ED ammunition is considered a class IV commodity, protect based on storage height, configuration, pallet type, encapsulated and packaging i.e. any plastic, etc.

About contacting gun shops as these owners may have some suggestions. Also try local national guard armories.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE, HERE IS WHAT I CAME UP WITH, CLASS IV, BLD HEIGHT MAX 20FT, IF THE BLD HAD BEEN LESS THAN 16 I COULD HAVE GONE WITH OH2, BUT BEING MAX 20 I WENT WITH EH2, PALLETIZED STORAGE HEIGHT 5 TO MAX OF 10FT.

READING NFPA495 IT SEEMS THERE MORE CONCERENED WITH THE PLACSTIC FROM THE SHOT GUN HULLS THAN THEY ARE WITH THE PISTOL OR RIFLE AMMO, IF A FIRE START IN THIS AREA OF THE BUILDING THE PROJECTILE WILL BE PUSHED FROM THE CASING AND HOT GASES WILL BE RELEASED.

Seems reasonable giving the propellant is a flammable solid mixed with an oxidizer. Since the loaded cartridge is not in a chamber, either the bullet will be ejected under low pressure from the casing, or in the case of shotgun shell, the wad will be pushed out of the crimped opening. Given that everything is cartoned, pre-wetting should limit the fire spread.

Without the walls of the firearm's barrel and chamber to work against, the expanding gas won't do much in the way of propelling projectiles.

Sounds like you're on the right track. I have protected small arms ammo storage with similar criteria.
