Notify neighbors, Do inspections of nearby homes and their properties, do seismic tests which should be left by a third party professional firm, inspect any reported property damage. When you do property inspections of reported damages carefully check the damages and photograph same as you may be dealing with existing conditions. Document all inspections and related findings Video recordings is a great tool during inspections.

Blast monitors can be rented or provided as part of a hired expert service. The battery-powered monitor has triaxial ground vibration sensor (geophones or accelerometers) and may have a microphone for airborne sound. Several monitors may be needed depending upon distance and direction to noise/vibration sensitive receptor locations. Measurements are important to compare to allowable criteria or specifications and for legal support. Good luck with any blasting during the nighttime!

And if the blasting is nowhere near a major population area, the farmers are going to be awefully p***ed when the chickens stop laying, the cows stop giving milk , etc etc.

We did blasting below Riverside Drive in Manhattan for the interceptor sewer tunnel. You will hear from ladies thrown from their toilets, blast fragments that travel out the tunnel, up the street, and into someone's bedroom without breaking a window, and many other great stories. The operator of the portable seismograph that we used to monitor the shots was an extremely handsome gentlemen, who was graciously given access to any woman's apartment, and they never submitted any claims. And on and on.

Giuss73:
Talk with a couple blasting contractors, as to what they want and need and what their preparatory requirements are. They will have a wealth of info. and experience, having facing the various conditions and situations many times. Talk with your own insurance carrier, they may have some requirements and needs for you to stay within the terms of their insurance policy. And, they may have some advice on things to do, and not to do, to keep yourself out of trouble. The local/district/state AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) will have some requirements and needs to begin to permit this kind of activity to allow it (or even if it is allowed) within their community.
