Peers,

We are Choke valve manufacturer and use Nitronic 50 for Choke Stems. It is governed by Table A.3 in NACE0175-3. However, Table A.3 allows/mentions only 1 supply condition as solution annealed followed by cold working to a max 35HRC.

Steel mills doesn't supply solution annealed and cold rolled Nitronic 50 as they could easily exceed 35HRC. It is commonly supplied as hot rolled or TMCP. The problem is Table A.3 in nace and it doesn't state if any other condition is acceptable other than cold work.

Is this how other user's interpret this table A.3? I have put in a query to NACE, but could take months to get a reply. any suggestions, thanks.

There is a lot of annealed and cold drawn N50 bar produced, just not by your suppliers.
My interpretation is that as long as your final hardness is under RC35 you are OK.
Just remember that free information is worth as much as you paid for it.

The wording looks reasonably clear: if cold working is to be applied, the starting condition shall be solution annealed; no cold working, the condition can be whatever.

Thank you Ed & SJ for your inputs. Ed - Is it possible to share any supplier that stocks cold worked material.
