Since our recent upgrade to NX 11, when I open some (but not all) assembly files I do not have the Home ribbon. If I right click on the bar to add or show the Home ribbon it's not even shown in the list for me to add it.

Additionally, In the assembly files that do not have the Home ribbon, I can not edit individual parts. I can make the part I want to edit the work part, but if I double click on a sketch/feature/extrude to edit it, instead of opening the feature or sketch I get a Properties dialog box the comes up. The only way I can edit the part is to make it the Displayed Part.

Please help

Thank you,
Trent

I'm not sure this is your issue, but as a starting point, open the "application" tab and make sure the "assemblies" application is toggled on.

Unfortunately, that's not the issue. I tried that and it just toggles the Assemblies ribbon on/off.

So, I was playing around on the Application ribbon and I clicked drafting then back to modeling and the Home ribbon appeared and now I can edit a part within the assembly by making it the work part. Strange! Maybe a bug?

Sounds like you were really in the gateway application when you thought you were in the modeling application. Switch to the gateway application to see if you get the same behavior.

Note there is an option in the customer defaults to "enter application where file was last saved" (found in gateway -> general -> part). This may be why some files behaved differently.

As Cowski notes, there is an option to re-enter the last application where the file was lastly saved, But, this is only saved in , i think, NX9 or later.
If the part opened is older than that, the application info is not there.

When this happens, Press Ctrl+M to enter the Modeling Application. ( if it is already running, no difference. You cannot use two modeling application licenses at the same time.)

Tomas
