I have a really noisy dust extraction fan sitting in a hugh plantroom and would like to build an enclosure around it to silence the noise to a reasonably acceptable level so people can go into the plantroom without going deaf.

What is the best material to make the encolsure? Gyprock or could I use double skin cool room panels (75mm)? or any thing else.PS I dont have a lot of money to spend either.

You need to do the calcs otherwise you might be spending a lot of money for nothing. Try IAC Ltd.

Alternatively, issue ear defenders.

If it were me ..I would enclose with plyboard and attach 2" thick fiberglass bats on inside of enclosure. Fiberglass is a very good noise mitigator and cheap!

Are those panels sandwiched with PUF or Thermcole? I used thermcole in the past and got good results. Just take care to dissipate the heat out of the enclosure by keeping louvers infront of motor fan. Fiberglass is also good as suggested by imok2.
