In load factor design method the nominal moment (Mn) is usually multiplied by strength factor (phi) to obtain moment resistance (Mr): Mr = phi * Mn phi accounts for section dimension tolerances etc. Then Mr must be larger than the applied factored loads. -ok http://www.bridgeart.net Upvote 0 Downvote
