Dear Esteemed Eng-tippers
I'm trying to model a device made of stiff, nonlinear elastic filaments wound around a mandrel, then potted in epoxy. I blithely assumed that this would be a doddle, using one of the dozens of Ansys material models, but I'm actually struggling to find an appropriate one. 'ANISO' seemed to be the nearest, but is restricted to a bilinear material model, whereas my material is better described by a stress-strain curve that continuously bends, getting less and less stiff the more it is strained. I would also like to include the effect that the material has very low strength in the tensile radial direction - ie, layer to layer strength is very low.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm seriously thinking of modelling each fibre at the moment, which is embarrassing.
