I have to create a manufacturing note in a drawing. In this note is about 20 numbered individual notes. I used SWorks to create this note as one whole note and I used the numbering feature to number them all.

My problem is, Because this is a Mil drawing, any note that is flagged anywhere on the print (the note number with a triangle frame) has to have a triangle frame around the number in the main group of notes and the period needs to be removed per ANSI standard.

Does anyone else have to do this and do you have any tips or tricks to make this happen?

Thanks

You can create notes and use the text format, add symbol feature to place triangles in front of the notes. In the list you'll see "Flag Tri 1-99". These are the numbered triangles without the periods. You'll have to double space the notes to get enough space between the lines so that the triangles won't overlap. It's not as convenient as auto-numbering but it works.

There's no way I know of to do it automatically, as in just hit Enter and the next number appears in a triangle. However, you can insert symbols into your note. Just hit the "Insert Symbol" button and choose the Flag Tri 1-99 symbol library. Alternately, you can just type

<T#-1>

replacing the "1" with whatever number you want in the triangle.

Looks like Finethread is a faster typist than I am. :-D Just a small addendum, if you don't want the full double spacing (as in a carriage return between each line) you can clear the checkbox for "Use document font", click the Font button, and change the value in the "Space" box to 1.15x the value in the Units box. The tip of each triangle will just touch the base of the one above it.

Other than losing the numbering and auto indent, this is alot better than my alternative, whatever that was.

This might be a simple ER.

Thanks for the great sug's Finethread and Handleman.

is there a way to see the code (ex. <T#-1>) that is being used for the indenting?

I am now able to adjust the indent so the number in a triangle lines up with a number without a triangle. If you right click on the line and select the bullets and numbering option, you can then changes factors in the indentation area. You want to set "indent" to where you want the note TEXT to start and "first line indent" to where you want the number to end up (looks like it would usually be a negative number).

After being able to use numbering and having everything line up, I noticed I wasn't able to renumber correctly.

I would have note 1.
Then note 2 was an inserted symbol with a triangle frame.
Then there was note 2 again because of the automatic numbering. This wasn't going to work.

This is what I found, if you change the starting number digit in "bullets and numbering" to lets say "3" and select OK nothing will happen. But if you change the indent slightly for that line, ex. go from 10 to 10.01, the number will then change to three.

The indent needs to increase after every triangle with every new starting number.

There doesn't seem to be an easy way but here's another option.

Create your notes with the auto numbering. Then create a ballon. Override the document font and set the spacing as Handlman suggested above (.115).

Then create a new note and in the property manager, set the "Border" to "Triangle" and "1 character". Place the note on the sheet and type a "space" in so you don't get the box that shows up inside the triangle.

Then drag and place it over the number in the note. After you have all the trianlges in place, window select the note and triangles, right click and select "Group". Now you can move it around together easily.

The only catch here is if you edit the note you may have to ungroup and position the Triangles.

I have used the method Gildashard proposes since we started using SW06. I prefer it over the method that is presented above which I used prior to addition of the word-like numbering features.
