Hi, we have a 2" 45 degree carbon steel nozzel to a veseel that is UT inspection showed down to 0.157" wall thickness compared to the nominal size of 0.343" WT due to impingement erosion. If the MAWP is 200 psi, do I need to change out the nozzle? Do we still have enough metal meet the pressure requirement?

If we need to repair the nozzle, what will be involved (x-ray, heat treating, etc)? Could we do the repair without removing the vessel?

Thanks in advance.

assuming the vessel is asme code and some states may be a little different

some countries are probably different

not enough information to tell if PWHT is required

You can do in place, if you are qualified,
have NBIC "r" stamp (assuming usa)
have qualified weld procedures and welders
write a repair procedure and present to AI
address required nde
do the repair
do the nde
fill out 'R" paperwork
have AI sign it

Thanks vesselfab. I am in Canada. The service of this vessel is for sweet gas. I don't really think PWHT is needed however I don't have any code handy to check.

The situation that you are describing calls for a Fitness-for-Service evaluation, probably using ASME FFS-1. You'll need to get someone with experience in these types of evaluations involved, particularly if you have to overcome a jurisdictional hurdle (read ABSA or TSSA).

The answer is "it depends" on a large number of factors, so you should get someone who works with FFS-1 all the time involved. Where in Canada are you?

I am in Alberta. Since you mentioned ABSA, I guess you are in Alberta also.
