Good Afternoon to you all,

The issue here is that we are dealing with 24", 30", 36" and 48" nozzles'diameter and we are trying to use plates instead of heavy forgings.
We are using 1 1/4" thk. plates, rolling them to the proper diameter, full pen long seam weld, 100% X-Ray and machine the end of the nozzle with a 3:1 taper.
Does any body know if ASME does not allow this kind of nozzles?
Thanks for your attention.
Best regards,

Unless things have changed they are not prohibited as long as you the proper weld procedure and testing and the proper heat treatment.

Can you give a little more information as to the material?

How are you going to use the nozzles?

Why do you have a 3:1 taper?

ferbus-

It is not at all unusual to use rolled plate for nozzles or boots on horizontal vessels. Just make sure that when you're running your calc's that you don't add the piping mill tolerance to the required thickness. The 3:1 taper is a bit unusual unless you're using thicker plate for reinforcement and tapering it down when you're out of the reinforcement zone.

ferbus,

What is the code of construction for this "vessel" or "tank" or whatever ?

What is the design pressure in psig ?

Where will it be installed ?
