This is a work at home issue. We have a user running a 1500VA UPS powering a desktop and monitor from a 15 Amp outlet protected by an AFCI. She is getting nuisance trips when she is not even working on the machine? My guess is probably when the UPS does it's periodic battery test. This is not been an issue until just recently. She had been using this setup for at least a year.

Thoughts on how to mitigate? Use an Online UPS?

There really isn't supposed to be arcing inside the UPS while doing anything. Early AFCI were really crummy and tripped on everything. Recently they've been made far less sensitive to a point of making sense.

First guess is the AFCI is old or too sensitive. Replace it with a new one.

Second thought is that the UPS really is screwed up and arcing too much. That would be the transfer relay somehow switching slowly. Rather uncommon. But any different UPS might solve the problem. Got one you can swap in?

Where else does the circuit run? I experienced nuisance tripping due to a bad connection in an outdoor light on the same circuit feeding the bedroom receptacles.

Good point Stevenal.
Maybe there is an arcing fault somewhere and the AFCI is doing the job that it is intended to do.
