NX 10: Part cleanup issues

Hi ,

Im using NX10 for my design works. I have some queries regarding PART CLEANUP.
1. By unchecking time stamp order, we can find unused item folder. But this folder will not have unused surfaces. Mainly points, curves,
datum will be associated with this folder. How to remove the unused surfaces with this option?. Also for some cases deleting unused
items will affect the history of the part.
2. I have also tried part cleanup with export method. as suggested by Jaydenn. It works well for part file with less size(It completely
removes unused files).Data with higher size will usually hang while saving into a new part(More than 200MB). I'm not sure if it is
because of system processing(16GB RAM,Better Graphics).
Please let me know your valuable comments regarding this.

Thank You,
Devaraj.

1) READ the documentation.:
"The Unused Items folder in the Part Navigator shows construction geometry that is not associated with a solid model."

How should NX ( or any cad system for that sake) know what you think is "unused" ?
How come you can't delete that stuff yourself ?

2) "part cleanup with export method. as suggested by Jaydenn"
- Suggested where ? how ?

Tomas

Thank You Tomas for your reply,

1) Regarding the unused items:
Yes you are right, But I am looking for an option that will have all the independent surfaces grouped in a folder(Basically, surfaces
which aren't the parent features for the final solid body). The word unused is based on features which are not a part of final solid.
Is there anyway that CAD system will retain solid body/bodies and its parameters?
As you know it is unnecessary in modelling.Deleting one by one feature will take more time and It might be helpful, if i get to know
about time saving operation.
One more thing I observed in unused items folder, few projected lines and bridge curves are also present in unused item folder(In my
design work) even though it is associated final solid body.
2) Part cleanup with export method: Apologies for not giving details about this discussion. Please see the below link.
Here you can see Jaydenn's reply regarding part clean up.
As I said before it is working for a CAD having less size.

1) there is no method known to me other than unchecking the timestamp order, then your navigator will show the different separate bodies in the part. The pink/blue highlight should aid in seeing what is used and what is not.

2) what kind of model is it that you are building ? -Engine block?
200 Mb solid model is quite large.

When you do that export to clean the part, open the Task manager - processes - click the performance tab and keep an eye on the lower left memory graph. If the total closes in on your 16 Gb, the computer starts swapping memory from RAM to Disk,, which suddenly slows down all processes extremely. Then look at the processes tab, click the memory header and note the value of the ugraf.exe is this say 10 GB ?
then it's probably running out of RAM. NX will crash.

Tomas

Hi Tomas,

It is a packaging design I'm working on. Hence the size is more.
I will look into that whatever you have suggested,
Thank you for your support.
