NX 6 Slow Performance Issues on Windows 7 1

My company recently upgraded NX4 to NX6, and I have noticed significantly slower performance on my machine.

I run a Windows 7 64 bit machine dual processor Xeon and 6 GB ram. The computer speed is not the problem.

The software is NX 6 32 bit. I notice poor speed while trying to load things like feature dialog windows and note edit boxes on drawings. Basically anything you would want to happen quickly takes a long time compared to the older version. For example, it may take 5 seconds or more to load a feature dialog box.

I upgraded my graphics card driver to the latest version and did not notice any drastic improvement. I would appreciate any suggestions to increase speed.

That sounds pretty abnormal.

Why are you using the 32-bit version on a 64-bit OS?

I'd check with GTAC on that issue. In my own informal survey of several clients, all are running 32bit NX on the the 64 bit os. Two are on XP64, one is on win7 64. Let us know what you find.

One other thing comes to mind:

What is the size of the file DialogMemory.dlx located in
...Documents and Settings\your_local_user\Local Settings\Application Data\Unigraphics Solutions\NX6

There is a bug in 6 that it grows over time and slows things.

Thanks wmalan ... Mine was getting on for 2MB which in my estimation is probably a little large.
Encase anyone want it, here's a link to the background information and resolution ...

Also pilfered from JohnRBaker from another thread ...

Note that in NX 6 we've added an option under the Preferences -> User Interface to 'Reset Dialog Box Settings'.
While we don't expect that users will need to use this option too often, we felt that if and when it was advisable to do so, that this would be better then telling them to start deleting system level files

I did check the DialogMemory.dlx and it was about 800 kB. I renamed the file, but still no luck in increasing the speed.

I'm with NXMold on this one still wondering why anyone would run a 32bit version under a 64bit O/S.

Let me tell you though that under a 32bit O/S later versions of NX are generally not slower than earlier ones. We tested this recently and posted some observations. In this case however it points to the fact that your 64bit system may be emulating a 32bit one and that could be where the problem lies. Which is why I asked since running the 64bit version of NX under a 64bit O/S just seems like it makes sense!

Also, the latest version is often NOT the best version for video drivers. I'd check support.ugs.com for hardware compatibility and certified driver versions.

If you are using a nvidia quadro card, v258.49 is the latest and I'm using it with no problems in nx7.5, but the certified version is 191.78 currently. Going back to different versions has, at times, given me a huge performance boost. I doubt this would affect your dialog opening speed, but its easy enough to try.
