NX 7.5 Customer Defaults cannot be changed

I don't know why, but several weeks ago, Unigraphics (NX 7.5.5.4) started opening up with different customer defaults than I used to have. I can tolerate some of them, but the default settings for sketching are starting to get under my skin. When I try to change File>Utilities>Customer_Defaults I am presented with a popup: "You do not have access to the User level defaults file. The changes cannot be applied."

This recent development may have something to do with the corporate mother ship fiddling with network licenses, or maybe a local UG admin clicking some extra boxes, or perhaps something more disconcerting. However, I'd like to be able to change the customer defaults back again so that I, like a hobbit, can do modeling and drafting in my familiar and comfortable environement again.

I tried following the steps suggested by TomMtz here: thread561-307891 but to no avail... I changed the two lines mentioned to: UGII_LOCAL_USER_DEFAULTS=C:\customer_defaults\NX75_user.dpv (TomMtz posted using NX8_user.dpv so i altered it for NX 7.5).

I don't have administrator rights on my machine, so I had an IT guy help modify the ugii_env_ug.dat file, thinking that if it pointed to a read-writable location for the customer default file, I would then be able to edit and save my default settings, but it still says the same thing as before.

Thanks in advance for any explanations / suggestions!

Did you copy the user.dpv file to your new location and have the file and folder path all set to RW?

Sounds like your IT people may have been messing with the ownership settings on your files. If you're getting that message, it's only because NX has been locked out of those folders. In other words, it's NOT an NX issue.

Thanks for the quick responses, guys!

looslib - there was no .dpv file existing in the oringinal directory, and I did make sure that my account has RW access to the new directory. I did copy a co-worker's .dpv file into that directory after the first several failures, just to see if that worked - no good either.

JohnRBaker - Are you saying that NX could be locked out of the directory whereas I myself am not (i.e. I can create/edit/delete files in the indicated folder)?

Can you save a NX part file to that folder?

Perhaps it's time to call GTAC.

I did call GTAC, and they were perplexed, but they helped me enough so that I ultimately found the solution shortly after my call.

We saw that the NX log file showed that NX 7.5 was searching for the file: nx4_user.dpv, which was bizarre to the GTAC guys. This may be because the machine used to run NX4, and whoever installed 7.5 may have done something... unorthodox.

Since I didn't have that file, or even an NX4 folder, that may have caused the problem in saving changes to the user.dpv. I copied the NX4 folder, including the nx4_user.dpv file, from a colleague's machine and pasted into:
C:\Documents and Settings\(users login)\Local Settings\Application Data\Unigraphics Solutions on my machine.

Voilà! Problem solved!

I can now edit the customer defaults no problem. The "defaults level" dropdown no longer says "User (Read Only)" but simply "User"

Thanks looslib and Mr. Baker for your support along the way.
I hope this solution may help anyone with a similar issue.
