NX Background 1

Hi All,

I have recently started using NX again after a few years away from it. I can see that a few things have changed which is kinda nice. The last version I used was NX2 which had the dark blue graduated background which I really like. The only issue I can see with this dark blue is that the TRI-Colour WCS is a little hard to see against the blue. I know how to change the background and all of the other colours so no troubles there. I am just wondering how many of you here use the default grey from NX7. or the Default light blue from NX5.

I'm with the default grey. I always used to customize it, but it never suited everyone.

If they don't like it, I just show them how to create a Visualization Template.

Our 'default' has been set to straight black ... but I always change it to the graduated blue.

I use the "Dark Background" toolbar button, the parts I work with are all over the place so this provided shortcut is the quickest way. If I was customizing myself, I'd probably go graduated blue or straight black.

While you might think that Dark Blue or Black may look good for you, trust me, a dark background 'dates' your software and makes it demo poorly (ever watch an NX session being projected on a screen which was using a black background?).

This may be true, But someone has already purchased it, Thats why we are using it . Is this the reason why new versions have lighter background?

I have always hated the graduated background. Main reason being that any background color other than black will invariably be used as a feature color by someone. Anyone that used black for a feature color immediately got reamed. I believe some studies have shown,that a green background is the "best" for user comfort. However, I am a bit long in the tooth and the contrast against black is the easiet for me to differentiate.

I like to change my background just slightly from time to time. I have some projects that I stare at for weeks so it gives it a little new "life".

Btw, one thing I've always done is change the default Windows "Active Window" to something sligtly gray. Those apps like Word and some menus within apps with that stark white page burn the eyes after a while on a large monitor.

I don't know about the green thing, it's like how contrast in a powerpoint presentation is supposedly best with yellow test on a blue background. That's different I know but it's just how a "bestest best" kind of thing can just.. suck.

I just use the graduated background (dark blue top - lighter blue under) for modeling and assemblies. With color settings, lines/dimensions/constrains/... set to different color as blue. Then for the specifications (master/model approach) i use a black background, so i need just one look at my screen and i know where i am in the program (making drawings or in my master part).
As for the monochrome representation of a drawing i cant look at it longer as 2 secondes as it hurts my eyes. Anyone out there is using this, and if yes, why?

Still one remark, i made this my trademark, because other designers on the factory use other colours or just a plane background. When i open a part a can immediatly see if i worked on the part or not.
So i made a macro that change the standard background black in graduated blue, attached it to a button, and placed it on a toolbar. Everytime i need to work on a collegues part i then use this button to change the background, lazy as i am this makes some mouseclicks less.

Our default is a black background, but I prefer the graduated light blue, so I use a Visualization Template to "mark" the files I work on too.

I also prefer the monochrome drawing background. I find it give me a better feel, for how the drawing will look printed out.

Yes, that's part of it, plus they asked my opinion and told them I liked lighter colors ;-) I'd been using a non-black backgrounds ever since you were able to change it even if in the beginning you had to manually edit the .cdf file to accomplish this. Of course then we spend 3 weeks arguing over exactly what colors and how much variance we should have.

Note that we've added an icon to the View toolbar which will allow you to instantly switch between 4 different combinations of light and dark, graduated and non-graduated backgrounds.

I use that extensively, but it really bothers me that we dont get WHITE and BLACK as options. Especially the white, as it would be really handy for screen captures. I know there is a jpeg output arrangement, but print screen and paste into powerpoint for markup is a rapid and simple thing used by so many people...

I have wondered this as well. I have just added the icon to change the background to my Ctrl+Shift+MB1 pop-up menu. But, I would love a drop-down menu option of White or Black.

I use Black as my background color (as it was in Unigraphics 8, when I started), and I use white for simple screen caps.

MickyV it provides a more accurate representation of what the hardcopy is going to look like. Line weights, annotations, etc. I believe that the white itself is muteable. Depending on the company standards Fuschia notes, lime green section arrows, an extreme, granted, but only barely. Monochrome is easier to view.

I can't do the monochome either for drawings. I have black for drawings and the dark blue for modeling
