We'll move from NX2 to NX4 soon.
I see that the background and a
lot of objects colors defaults have changed
on that new release.
How do you guys are dealing with that ?
Do you stick to your company defaults colors
every time you upgrade or just use UGS
new ones ?

We just work with whatever colors UGS has set for the default. I also have a grip file that John Baker of UGS supplied (posted to the GTAC newsgroups), that converts old files to the new color map.

Everything should be designed as simple as possible, but not simpler.

You can pretty much choose how you want to map your colors now for new parts. You can create your own color definition file (CDF) and have NX default to that or you can leave NX the way UGS has it set up out of the box. It shouldn't be that big of a deal now with the way NX handles the customer defaults.

Wish they wouldn't make the background color file specific....I like a lighter background but most here like the darker background.

Same here. On the bright side, our seed file colors haven't changed. That is often the first clue wethrt they had been used or not. The new graduated shaded colors (NX4) remind me of an apocolypse, and use colors too close to what I use in design.

In the UGII folder you'll find "ugcolor_nx2.cdf". Edit your Customer Defaults to use this CDF file, rather than the standard one ... Gateway->Visualization->Color Palette

It's also available for use in NX5.

As for the background, this is completely customizable using the Customer Defaults. You can set a SITE "standard" yet still allow users the ability to customize for themselves. You can also create visualization templates.

Good suggestions, but I think I like knowing right away what extent of checking of someones file will entail. If the colors are the new default, I know that the file needs to be more thoroughly checked to coincide with our seed files set up, and who knows what else will differ from the company standards.

Fortunately, updating our seed files has no effect on the colors, at least since NX2.
