In thread561-261407 I posted a file that gave an overview of converting part units and finished with instructions on how to integrate that into the explorer right click menu (right click on a part file to convert the units). The attached file is an update; the old version would error out if there was a space character anywhere in the file path. The IT dept. of the company I used to work for kept us in line, so it was never an issue; where I work now is not so strict. This version has been modified to handle spaces in the file path.

Forgot to add the instructions for the right click menu are for Windows XP (yes, I'm still on XP). For those running Vista or Win7, you might find some help here: thread561-315589

Your link ("This version"), when it gets to Engineering.com, is empty.

That's odd, I copied & pasted the link it generated. Looks like amp; was inserted after the ampersand in the file link; not sure how it got there.
At least the link below my signature works.

Having recently done this just last week I just want to add that the "File Types" menu that is present in Windows XP no longer exists in Windows 7, therefore you cannot directly access the Advanced menu required to setup Shell integration.

I did some searching around and it appears the this type of functionality is no longer built into windows 7. The only work-around i could find was using a 3rd party tool such as FileMenuTools that allows you to manually set the File Type options as you could in Windows XP.

If anyone knows of a different way to do this that does not require 3rd party tools.

There is a way, still like in xp. Goto control panel, then programs, you will see Defaults programs and beneath it it will stated Make a file always open in a specific program, here you can change the settings.

Mickey, that menu will allow you to change the default program that launches when you double-click a file. We are trying to add a right-click context menu to .prt files so you can easily change the unit type. Using your instructions would associate .prt files with the conversion script, so you could no longer double-click on them to automatically launch NX.

This "Convert to mm" command can be added to the Right Mouse Button context menu for .prt files on both XP and Win-7 without the use of 3rd party applications with the following single line command .

Code:
reg.exe add "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ugpartfile\Shell\Convert to mm\Command" /ve /f /t REG_SZ /d "cmd.exe /s /c \" title Convert NX part to mm %1 ^&^& @\"^%^%UGII_BASE_DIR^%^%\ugii\ug_convert_part.exe\" -mm \"%1\" ^& pause\" "
