When using the "create new component" , I.e i have a part which I want to make into an assembly by moving an existing solid from this part to a new component file, NX no longer prompts for the new component name.
NX 1953.
Is this a customer default setting ? Environment variable ?
Its highly annoying if one have done this with say 5 solids and the new files are named "model1, model2, model3, model4, model5"
And then to give these proper names/ID, the dreaded... "NX native save component as"... = where am I, which part?, which part is it I am saving? should i press Yes or no ?
This change does not help.

Tomas

It looks like "Create New Component " is available in NX1961, but worded a little bit differently.
It could depend on the Role that you are in, make sure you are in ADVANCED.
Assemblies -> Components -> New Components

I think that the old "Create new Component" is the one I am talking about, maybe named slightly different in 1953 / 1961.
But, the issue is that it no longer prompts me for the new components name, it names these "model1",. "model2",. "model3" etc
so suddenly one has "n" components with the name "modeln+1" and then the naming of these into proper names is no fun.

I think what you're after is set in the customer defaults, see image.

Thanks,
I must say this is a bit confusing and I am not clear over the benefit for this change.
If I set the Preferences -Assemblies - component - -New component = "Select from file new"
( or the corresponding Customer default as Anthony showed) NX will act as NX12 did, = It presents the file new dialog as soon as I select "create new component".
The confusing part is that I have never, during my 30 years of NX , heard anybody saying that this step was awkward, annoying or confusing.

The awkward, annoying and confusing moment is if one wants to rename an existing component in an existing structure, say 4 levels down.
the procedure is 100% logical but a new user will not be successful.
That "procedure" would have been a logical thing to change.

Tomas

Hi Tomas,

I agree with you, this new setting is OK for a demo or a rapid assembly for test without any save after and in no case for a complex assembly
