Hello Everyone,
One of the drafters in my group is having a problem with "Automatic Centerline" not creating the same information in NX 8 as in previous versions of NX. I am not sure what version this change happened in, but they gave me two example parts: one that was created recently in 8.0.3.4 and another part that was created back when we were using NX 6.x.x.x. A simple description of the part is a circular plate with multiple bolting circles.
In the older NX 6 part when you go into drafting, select "Automatic Centerline", and then select the view, UG adds a centerline, a bolt circle for each set of circular holes, and then adds a center mark for each individual hole. If I do the same thing in the part that was created in NX 8, it doesn't add the bolt circles but does create a centerline and center marks for each hole. I tried looking to see if there is a setting that controls what is created when using the automatic centerline but I could not find any type of setting. I then went into NX help and looked up automatic centerline and found the following statement: "If bolt circle holes are not a circular instance set, then a linear centerline is created for each hole."
After finding this I went to see exactly how the holes were constructed. In the older NX 6 part the drafter created a simple hole and then created a circular array using "Instance Feature." In the newly created NX 8 part the drafter again created a simple hole but then created a circular array using "Pattern Feature." This is the only difference that I can find in how the holes are constructed. I then noticed that "Instance Feature" is no longer available in NX 8, so I cannot constructed the array in the NX 8 part the same way I did in the NX 6 part. From my investigations, it appears that the automatic centerline is not recognizing the circular array that was created by "Pattern Feature" as a circular instance set which is why NX is only creating the linear centerlines for each hole in NX 8.
My questions are:
1) Am I correct in saying that automatic centerline does not recognize circular arrays created using "Pattern Feature" as a circular instance.
2) If I am correct, how can you create a circular array in current NX versions so that "Automatic Centerline" creates bolt circles as it did in previous versions that supported "Instance Feature?"
I appreciate any info that someone may have on this subject.
Thanks,
Jesse
