NX License Server (License Borrowing) - A Very Fast Question

Hi all!
I'm not enough familiar with NX license borrowing, therefore need a small hint. Our company utilizes a corporate server for floating licenses distribution. A few days ago our workmate told me, that he has accidently brang his laptop to the home (it was in hibernation then). Then he has turned it on and NX has started normally, without any licensing issues, despite the fact it happened outside the corporate LAN. Could you please explain me the reason it works? My workmate has borrowed the license and it remained "work-able" outside the LAN?

That's what borrowing is for, to be able to use NX away/not connected to the license server.
The user nominates the bundle and the period to borrow for and that license can be used for that period of time on that computer only.

Suddenly, our license doesn't support borrowing (the BORROW key is not assigned to any bundle), so it's not possible to borrow any bundle from our corporate server. Any suggestions?

Huh, sounds incredible, but it is really so. We don't have the borrowing option enabled in our license file, but i've tested it and it works for all laptops in our company:
1. Working in NX with a laptop, connected to the LAN (where the license server is);
2. Switch your laptop to the hibernation keeping the LAN wire connected and NX is still running before the hibernation;
3. Disconnect your laptop from LAN and turn it on;
4. We're still able to work in NX without a connection to the corporate license server (at least for 30-45 mins);

this is exactly how it should work.
NX is "speaking" to your license server in what they call "heartbeats", A heartbeat is a handshake between NX and the license server.
this is not a constant stream but something that "occurs" now and then. - How often is a secret.
anyhow, NX tolerates a number of lost heartbeats before considering the connection broken.
For example you can move a computer with a running session from location A to B and then on location B re-connect to the network. as long as this doesn't take too long the session will survive. When you put your laptop into "sleep" these heartbeats will start ticking as soon as it is running again.

pressed the submit instead of the preview button...

The Borrowing license is actually free !
But you need to request it from your VAR.

In case your site migrated from I-Deas to NX, you will have the Borrowing feature.

One can, by using a options file, limit the number and which licenses which can be borrowed.
- when a license is borrowed, it is removed from the available licenses in the office util the borrow period ends.

Tomas
