NX modules, addons or extensions 1

Hi
We are buying a CAD software. I was offered NX with no extras, just sheet metal working, that I suppose it's included in the "basic" version.
I have been researching on the internet, but I can't find the addons that can be bought with NX. I am afraid I could miss some function later if I buy just the cheapest NX configuration.

By addons I am referring to maybe FEA, piping (HVAC), etc. But I can't find them. Do you know them? Are they many and expensive?

Exactly what do you mean by that? I mean, who "offered" it to you and for what price?

NX is always fully delivered. You only need to buy the licenses (or bundles) for the different "modules" in the package.
You can always extend your license file to unlock the functionality you want to use.
Some of those functionalities might be part of a bigger license (or a bigger bundle). It could be that you need to buy a license for functionalities you are not using, just to get that one you need.
That is for NX versions up to NX12

The new Version NX comes with the possibility to use the new License based on "Tokens"
Which means you buy a package of tokens which you can use to activate any functionality you might need at that moment. As long as you have the correct amount of tokens left in your package.
Lets say you have a bundle of 150 tokens. 130 are already used. You need a functionality which uses 18 tokens..then you can activate that. If it requires 23 tokens, you first need to release another functionality to free up more tokens.

So I can evaluate if any of them would be necessary, increasing the price, or how much would cost us to "grow" using NX with new functionalities in the future.

I have never been able to find a document with a complete list of which functionalities are available in NX.
There are of course the helpfiles
And the Siemens NX website

Prices you will never find online. For this you will need to contact the sales department or your account manager in Siemens.

Thanks, NutAce. I will ask in the software demonstration (still not decided to choose SolidWorks or NX at the same price for basic design).

Do you know if library is good and if it's included by default?

There is a small fastner / Machining library available (requires a separate download and install)
There are 3rd party vendors which can sell you other libraries but NX itself doesn't have much "build in at install" libraries available.

There is however, as of NX12, a P&ID module available where you have a hydraulics library.
Haven't had the chance to look into that yet. So I don't know the extends of that library.

Hi @Old3DNewbie,

I would get back in touch with your 'Siemens official seller' and give them a list of your immediate requirements and what you expect to need in the future; they will then provide the information for the most appropriate package for you.

Some library items are of course included but as you can imagine the possibilities are almost endless so unlikely to fit your needs perfectly. NX has access to huge 3rd party libraries such as Cadenas.

As stated above, you have all the software delivered, you just need the license codes to activate what you need. In my opinion going the NX route gives greater flexibility for future expansion that you get with SolidWorks; you're buying into a complete platform of products - it just depends if you already know what you will need in the years to come?
