I have a problem trying to install NX 8.5 using a node-lock trial licence file. I have gone through the documentation and it seemed like a straightforward process. I start the installation and chose the lice file, software installs fine, but when I run it I get the error: “licence-no such feature exists[-5]”. I run the diagnostics on Lmtools and I get the following error:
Error getting status: No SERVER lines in license file.
License path: C:\Users\m4600\Desktop\splm85.lic;
FLEXnet Licensing error:-13,66

As it is a node-lock licence, there should not be any server lines or CID's.

FLEXnet diagnostics confirm that: "This is the correct node for this node-locked license"

I contacted the vendor's technical support and their people tried to run the SPLMLicenceServer tool prior software installation. When we are asked to indicate the licence file we get the error “licence file not valid”. I also tried this on various other PC's (technical people suggestion) getting the same result. This is the second licence file we are trying with the same results.

Next step is a format to eliminate any leftovers from previous installations, which I would like to avoid at this given period.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi,
Did you installed the new license server (i hope you are not using some already existing license server) before starting the installation process?
As far as i knew the license server has changed (assuming in case you were using NX7.5 earlier and then made a transition to NX8.5) so please make sure that you install the correct license server first.Hope this helps you.(in case the problem still persists please contact GTAC)

Thanks kapmnit123. The issue with the new licence server is that when trying to install it will give “licence file not valid” and the installation cannot be completed. Funny thing is that documentation mentions that with this type of licence Licence server does not have to be installed.

Hi,
Although i have not much knowledge about licensing but "is there any possibility that the license file (which i assume you might have got on your mail) is corrupted"
Try a "SAVE AS" on the mail attachment and save it as a txt format first and then change it's extension to .lic
Not sure if this is going to help in your case.Do let GTAC know about it.
Best Regards

@shiatman, would you be willing to post the license file here? I deal with NX license issues in my job everyday but I need to see the type of license that you are using to try and help you.

Hi Anthony,

You can have a look here

As you understand I had to conceal some info.

Thanks for that.
The license is what is called a SENL (Standalone Node Locked). It does not use Flexlm at all, so you can forget about using lmtools or the diagnostics to fault check this.

The license is tied to the hostid that you blanked out. Only the computer that has that ID will be able to use the license.

Assuming that the license file isn't corrupt, save it somewhere on the computer or you can use the path C:\Users\m4600\Desktop\splm85.lic as from the previous post.
I'll assume your using Windows 7 for the next bit.
Windows Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings (upper left)
Then on the dialog that appears click Environment Variables.
You will then need to edit the 'System' variable UGS_LICENSE_SERVER
The value of this should be the path to & the name of the license file e.g.
C:\Users\m4600\Desktop\splm85.lic

Now you should then be able to use the 'License Options' tool to try and select a bundle. If you have edited the variable correctly, you should see the NX11100N bundle listed on the left side of the dialog. Select it and add to the right.

Now try and start NX.

Anthony, thanks a lot mate, looks like you know your business, unlike some vendors that only know how to sell. It worked like a charm.
