Running on Windows 7 I can start NX6 and NX7.5 okay
When I try to start NX8.5 or NX9 I get NX Initialization Error (See attached screen shot)

The message says to check the Java Runtime Environment variable buts does not state which one or what it could be set to

Can anyone offer any guidance on what I need to check for ?

Recommended for you

Windows Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings (Upper left) -> Environment Variables

Create/Edit the following variables system or user(system variables work for all users, user variables only for the logged in user).
UGII_JAVA_HOME
UGII_JVM_LIBRARY_DIR

On my system, the variable values are as follows:

UGII_JAVA_HOME C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_25
UGII_JVM_LIBRARY_DIR C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_25\bin\server

On yours, you'll need to find the right 64bit version of Java and point the variable accordingly.
