NX Subtract Vs I-Deas Cut

I am new to NX6. I have two different parts in two different windows. I use copy and paste the part I want to use as the tool in the target part window. So far so good. When I do a subtract all I get on the target part is the outline of the tool part. Only when I go to "Hide parents" in the part navigator bar I get the part I was after.

When I did this in I-Deas the parts would cut and the void would instantly show up.

Could someone please explain the Hide parents step

In the Subtract dialog, expand the 'Settings' section and make sure that the two 'Keep' options are both toggled OFF.

really that easy a setting. Wow thanks I played with both of these except for turning both off. Thanks for the help. I am sure I will have many noob questions as we start getting into this software for production. We are getting some formal training at the mid to end of July. Thanks again!
