Hello,

I just stated as a design eng. working for a metal stamping company. I am attempting to fix the dwg file issue, we use and share for drafting. I was emailed this file and it has the ideal dwg template setup we would want. I have been tasked with fixing it or officially getting it to a template standard. I am working on getting the needed permissions to update the PAX file but my attributes issue needs to be fixed before I can officially attempt the template for the rest of the team. below are some items leading me up to this post.

Issue: I have a DWG file that has the title block and a suppressed component file with all the standard attributes we need from the customers. when opening the dwg file, an error pops up due to not having access to the old part- expected, so I go to "replace component" with the new part that I will make the dwg for, my "maintain relations" checkbox is active. the title block does not updated the attributes from the new part that has replaced the old.

Attempts:
-- I have gone in and built a "relationships-> insert (Object/Part) Attribute" picking the one I want. I save it and when working with a new part, I have to go back through it all over again or i have to go in and delete the previous parts information (stuck in the file) and then it updates.
-- I also tried the "import -> attribute -> attribute from one object" but it does not update with a new part inserted. i used the other options as well with no luck.
-- I also looked in to creating an attribute template but did not fine much useful information and what I found, it did not seem to work as I needed.
-- I have gone in to create a full out template with boarders and new title block and file from the NX standard dwg files. This is where I am working to get the needed permissions. I cant see why this option would prevent me from fixing this issue though. once I have attributes fixed, I will be able to work toward the template goal.

Goal: to have my dwg file attributes update when I replace an old component with a new component for a new drawing file.

Note:
--The current title block is a bunch of lines and text boxes, my goal is to make it a real table and title block but fixing the attributes is first step for me. we require alot of information in the title block. I have created a proper table with the needed information but unable to get the updated information when replacing component with a new component.
-- The dwg file is a few years old and has been shared by the team for a few years.
-- from my understanding, these attributes worked before we updated to NX Version 1892 a few months ago.

I know this was a lot, but I wanted to provide what I have tried to help speed up getting a result. I am not finding much information issues on this version of NX or on this matter.

I think what you need to do is identify the attributes that exist in your parts & create the links to them in the drawing template.
For example, if your standard parts have an attribute called JCAMARGO31, in your drawing template, you create an attribute called DB_DWG_TEMPLATE_JCAMARGO31
Then on the drawing, in the template, you can create a note or add a table entry that references DB_DWG_TEMPLATE_JCAMARGO31.

Putting the DB_DWG_TEMPLATE_ in front identifies that a link is to be made to the model part attribute when the drawing is created.
So when a new drawing is created, using this template, the drawing will have an attribute DB_DWG_TEMPLATE_JCAMARGO31 that is populated by the value of JCAMARGO31 from the model part.

It's a bit difficult to explain, which is why I created a bunch of videos about drawing templates a few years ago for my customers as it's something we always get asked.
The videos are for NX9, but the theory is still the same

They cover all the topics that you need to understand for drawing template creation:
