I am currently running NX8 and am looking to get Visual Studio so I can further my programming ability with NX Open. I know NX8 is compatible with Visual Studio 2010, however I see that 2012 is already out. Does anyone know if VS 2012 is, for sure, compatible with NX8? If it is, I'll proceed with that. Any documentation you can supply would be greatly beneficial. Also as a followup, is the Professional Edition of VS required to use NX Open? Look forward to any responses.

Mark,
You can have any Microsoft compiler with the windows SDK for free, so you don't realy need Visual Studio at all.
The free express Visual Studio is good enough for developing applications, having said that, if you need connection to some kind of source control and/or would like to enhance your coding productivity with Visual Studio extensions the proffesional version is recommended.
I use Visual studio 2012 as text editor, and comiple it with NX7.5(VS2008 compiler) and NX8.0(VS2010 compiler).
