nx11 cam - workpeice, specify blank, offset from part... 1

Hi Guys,
is there any way to offset only one side of the part? I have a symmetrical part with ground x and y edges but the edge with an arc is roughly cut in a saw. I only want to offset that side on the blank...
Which leads me to the question is there any way to specify the blank using a sketch outline which is useful when the blank is very rough...?

Not with the Workpiece dialog.

You will need to model something that truly represents the stock model. Synchronous modeling is great for this.

What operation type are you using?
If you don't have a model of the blank, you could also use blank distance, and a trim boundary to stay away from the ground edges.

thanks for the replies. I can make a model of the blank/stock no problem but how do I select it as the blank?

Aaahh.. I see, simply select it as geometry, ok, that's clear enough - cheers!

Mark - I have been using trim boundaries which are very useful but what is blank distance?

Blank distance is a an operation parameter - similar to offset from part when specifying blank geometry in a group.

I like to use bounding block for all my workpieces because it is automatic. I have my excess bounding block stock set in my template parts so i rarely ever need to manually set any blank stock nor play around with modeling.

You can set your bounding block stock in the template part so it is automatically set in new prt files or set it on the fly in your prt file. You can also specify a different stock for each side if you need it. Bounding block also has handles to adjust the stock.

I recommend reading yhe docs for bounding block.
