NX3 Units

I just resently got NX3, how do i change the units from millimeters to inches, so that everytime i open UG it always opens as inches? I tryied using Customer Defaults, but it just donesn't seem to change anything, please help.

Is it possible that it was an option during the installation?

Customer Defaults REQUIRE that you restart UG before they will take effect. Are you doing this? If so, are you SURE you have permissions to change the defaults, meaning do you have write permission so they can be saved?

Well I can notice some changes using the Customer Default, in drafting my dimensioning style is changed into inches, and also when I select default or default all on the annotation preference I can notice some changes that I had set under Customer Default, but I know that the part is still in millimeters, because when I select the object to retrieve information, it is analyzed in mm and when I create the part in modeling it is being created in mm.

Are you restarting UG after making the necessary changes? The setting that you wish to make into Inches is Initial Part Units. Now, if you've already created & saved a part in metric, it's NOT going to change over to Inch upon changing the customer defaults. It doesn't work that way. The customer defaults are for (the most part) NEW parts only.

If you have a part that was created in metric, look in the documentation and you will find a command line to convert metric parts to inch and visa-versa, using a command prompt window.

Yes. I think it's called ug_convert. Do a search in the documentation & it should get you going.

I be picky here, but you really need to be careful how you word your questions. Your initial question was how to set the units so that UG opens the same every time....well, given that question, the answer is via the customer defaults. However, had you asked how to change the units of an EXISTING UG part, the answer would have been using the ug_convert utility.

Not picking on you, just informing you that part of the solution to a particular problem may lie within the question that is asked. [thumbsup2

Actually i was more thanking for the input, I learn something new about using ug_convert. I didn't use ug_convert to solve this problem, the problem was that in our company NX3 is connected with IMAN, and on iman there's an option to switch form metric to inches, and during the installation of NX3, my settings of inches was changed to metric. So i was able to work with inches, but still have my part in metric.
