I want to install NX4(64) on a new computer with Windows 7(64), furthermore this computer does not have a parallel port for which to plug in the hardware key.

I have found the instruction below for an NX4 license service work around and have a few questions:

Can someone please confirm this will work with my exact configuration?

Can I use an NX5 (32bit) lmgrd?

Can I use a Parallel to usb cable to connect the hardware key (64 bit)?

Thank you very much in advance!

For the NX4 license service:

1. Copy all NX4 license server setup files to local hard disk.
2. delete lmgrd.exe from that copy
3. copy lmgrd.exe from the NX7.5, NX7, NX6 or NX5 flexlm install in to the local setup of the NX4 from above
4. select lmgrd.exe and goto properties using MB3.
5. check the run with Administrator privilege button.
6. Run the setup using your local copy files.

I think the licensing has changed since NX5 and doesn't use the same scheme.

You can request a NIC based license, then you don't have to worry about any hardware issues.

Ben,

My employer stopped paying maintenance after NX4 so I must use the hardware key...

Can't confirm, as know of no one that has gotten it to work.
NX5 license or licensing setvice will not work for NX4. What I described is a workaround so that the NX4 licensing service can be installed on Windows 7 and only lmgrd.exe is used from a newer version.
The Parallel to USB will most likely not work, but it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

If you're stuck with NX4, you could:
1. Use a different system that has a parallel port as the license server.
2. Or do as looslib suggested and contact your CSR and request a standalone (no FlexLM is used) license based on a MAC address from a network card.
3. Or get your CSR to swap you over to a USB dongle. Not sure that would work as you would need to get the 64bit dongle drivers which Siemens do not supply.

Install nx licensing software to any pc (which has parallel port) on your network. Instal nx4 for your new pc and for license enter network path with the pc with nx licensing software (eg. PC_NAME@24000 -actually dont remember which port is maintained for the nx4 license)

Thanks to all for your help. I will let you know when (not if) I get it up and running!
