NX4 Graphics problem using crosshair cursor on Windows 7 AMD Radeon

I seem to have a graphics problem whenever I turn on the crosshair cursor function or I perform a rectangular selection.

The screen displays black trailing lines as I drag the cursor around. See attached image.

I am running NX4 on Windows 7 (64 bit) with an AMD Radeon HD 6700 video card.

Thanks,

When you say "crosshair cursor function" I assume that you're talking about toggling ON the full-screen 'Cursor Crosshairs' option in Selection Preferences, correct?

Well I just tried this using NX 4.0.4.2 (32bit) running on Windows 7 (64bit) with an Nvidia Quadro FX 880M graphics card, and it works fine.

However, considering that you're running an out-of-date version of NX (released in 2005) on what I assume is the latest OS and Display driver, which means that as far as NX 4.0 is concerned, this represent a non-certified configuration (but then so is mine ;-). While you may wish to call GTAC on this, I suspect that you will not get a lot of sympathy.

Question: You seem to imply, since you went out of your way to explain which cursor mode you were in, that this works OK when using the default NX cursor, correct? If so, I'd go back to using it if this is too much of a pain-in-the-butt to use as it's now working.

That particular graphics card appears to target the gamer market, and I strongly suspect that it is not certified for use with NX. So even if you upgrade to the latest version of NX, you still won't get much sympathy from GTAC.

That said, you may want to experiment with different driver versions (try older versions as well as the latest, if you can find them). Sometimes just upgrading (or downgrading) the driver can fix the problem.

John,

With the cursor crosshair turned off, all is fine until I go to select something with a rectangular box, then I get many trailing black boxes!

I just purchased this computer as a custom build so I should be able to swap the card for one that will be compatible, perhaps the Nvidia you are running, or as cowski suggested I can try a different driver version.

Thank you both for the advice, much appreciated!

My particular Nvidia card was for a laptop, however most any of the current Quadro cards should prove satisfactory as these are of workstation-class architecture:

I disabled the Aero feature and now everything works fine!

Many thanks!!
