Hello everyone,
I have some troubles, a supplier sent me a file in the .jt format.
I open it in NX4 but I can't do anything with this file, not even extract any edge or face.
I need to take some measurements. The distance tool didn't work, even when I open this file in the drafting module I can't take any dimension.
I hope you can help me!
Thanks for your help.

There are two formats in which to generate JT files, one as only containing facet data and nothing more. The other approach captures the relevant edge and face data as well, but in a very lightweight manner, but yet complete enough so that we can deduce from the faceted model information about the original edges and faces for operations like measurements and being able to reference certain aspects of the model, like being able to reference the center of an arc related to the 'edge' of a hole or boss. However, this extra data must be captured at the time the original JT was created as it can NOT be derived from only the faceted model later on.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

The JT toolkit that Siemens PLM Software supplies to 3rd parties includes all that is needed to create the full data set. Now whether any particular vendor's exported JT files include the lightweight B-rep or not, that strictly up to that vendor.

Inside of NX, these export options are set in Customer Defaults under...

Gateway -> JT Files...

Hi, I have a trouble too, from scanner i got 3D image but it's a faceted body thats why i can't modify right, is possible transform my file into a .jt file to get the necesary information to edit it?

Thanks!!!

If you open a JT file and then go into File>Properties and under the JT tab click on Extract Exact Data then if it works then the result is a solid body with no parameters. You could then work with it as geometry or perform drafting on it.

Cheers
