NX4 Parasolid Issues

Has anyone else been having problems with the quality of the parasolids exported from NX4? I have been getting nice clean models from all previous releases but since going to NX4 the parasolid files have not been very good quality. This has been especially noticable when importing the parasolids into Surfcam, Esprit, and Solidworks. Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks!

Do your other programs support the same version parasolid that NX4 outputs? You might try exporting the previous version parasolid to see if that helps.

I have gotten into the habit of only exporting older versions, and have yet to run into a problem with other systems not being able to use them.

tallard,

Have you upgraded Surfcam, Espirit or Solidworks? Maybe the issue resides in those softwares rather than in Parasolid. If you haven't upgraded, then maybe that's why you've noticed a reduction in quality...those softwares may not have the latest Parasolid kernel. If you haven't upgraded since NX4 has been released, how would one expect a software written for NX3 Parasolid to handle an NX4 Parasolid?

Regardless, you have the capability of exporting older versions of Parasolid from NX4, so it shouldn't be an issue when all is said and done, unless it's the importing software (Surfcam, Espirit, SW) that's not translating it quite right.

The versions of Surfcam, SolidWorks, Esprit, Etc. Are controlled by my customers, and as such, are beyond my control. What I can do is try to export from NX4 the older version of parasolid to see if it makes a difference.

Thank you for your input!!

NX4 appears to use the same parasolid version as NX3.

The interesting thing is if I export a model from NX3 using Parasolid V16.0 the result is better than if I export it from NX4 using Parasolid V16.0

Seems like I've come full circle on this one :)

I'm sorry, but that's not correct.

NX 3.0.0.21 used PS 16.0 (build 129)

NX 3.0.5.3 used PS 16.1 (build 288)

NX 4.0.0.25 used PS 17.0 (build 210)

Currently NX 4.0.3.2 uses PS 17.0 (build 272)

And NX 5 will use a build from PS 18.1

Why then is PS 17.0 not an option when exporting from NX4.0.0.25?

Thanks John, in the drop down list when exporting the parasolid file I see (16.0-NX 3) at the top of the list in both NX3 and NX4 versions. The list doesn't get any more specific than that.

That's a 'bug' that was fixed in NX 4.0.2.2.

However, the most accurate way to get the version of Parasolid used in a particular release is to go to Help/About NX and when the legal disclaimer comes up, select the "System Information" button. There you will find all sorts of interesting data about your system and the version of NX currently running.

Thanks John,

I'm on 4.0.1.3 - upgrading now.

Thanks again!
