NX7.5 Windows 7 file dialog 1

NX7 and 7.5 use a strange non-windows file dialog. The problem I'm having with it is that my Explorer Favorites do not show up (recent places, desktop, libraries, computer, and network are the only options).

Are there any plans to change this to a more standard behaviour?

Are you implying that the file dialog in NX 7.5 is somehow different then say it was in NX 6.0 or NX 5.0? I'm running Windows 7 and virtually all version of NX (from NX 2.0 thru NX 7.5), when I select File -> Open... or File -> Save As..., what I see is basically the same. I see no fundamental differences between any of these versions of NX.

I remember seeing 'Explorer Favorites' in dialog boxes years ago, but I thought that had been gone for some time now. For what its worth, favorites is not available in NX6 running on Windows XP (only My Recent Documents, Desktop, My Documents, My Computer, and My Network Places).

I'm not comparing NX7 to previous versions, I'm comparing it to other applications.

So far every application I have used in windows 7 shows a list on the left side of the file open/save dialogs that starts with favorites, then libraries, computer, and network. NX is the only application I've used that has its own file dialog lacking this list.

I find the windows 7 favorites list to be an invaluable shortcut, and being unable to use it in NX is dissapointing.

Every version of NX I have installed on Windows 7 does that (NX2 up to NX7.5) But it's not only NX.
See the uploaded image, where NX7.5 & Ultraedit have the same explorer dialog, but Excel 2010 uses a different one.
How you change though I can't answer.

But Tony, are you running Windows 7? I talked to our UI team leader and her comment was that prior to Windows 7 it was just an issue of doing a little editing of the Window's registry, which she had done herself and which she had shared with several people, however Microsoft made a bunch of changes with the tools supplied with Windows 7 and she's not sure that this approach will still work, but she did promise to look into it for me. I'm passing along to her the item you found on the net so if I hear anything back with respect to its relevancy to Window 7, I'll let you know.

John, I am running Windows 7 64bit. From what I can work out, there is a new file open dialog for Windows 7 and programs need to be made to use it:

OK, here's an approach that our UI people found (and tested). Note that I've used it to edit my NX File Open/Save dialogs, changing the list of items in the column on the left (this is what you all wanted, right?).

Note that I used the approach described in 'Option One' rather then directly editing the register, which is 'Option Two'. There are some things to be aware of if you attempt to use this approach to edit the File dialog. To start with, this tool DOES NOT add additional items to the existing list. If you use it, you will need to define your complete list of items, which BTW are limited to a total of 5. Also, if you don't go the 'regedit' route, you will need to restart Windows for any changes to take effect.

Anyway, give it shot and see if this meets your needs or not.

That works. Since NX uses the XP-style dialog (along with other older programs), just customize it in windows 7.

Its odd that Microsoft didn't inlcude Favorites in that list themselves, but I used the group policy editor to add "C:\Users\[name]\Links" and it works well enough (requiring two clicks instead of one in the windows-7 style dialog).
