NX8.5 - Patterns

I read somewhere, or at least I think I did, that NX8.5 would no longer be supporting Patterns.

I do notice that Format->Pattern is missing from the menu in Drafting, but it is available when in Modelling.

Are Patterns still fully supported in NX8.5.

Yes, 'Patterns' are still 'fully' supported in NX 8.5. The only caveat to this is that we have moved the 'Pattern' function, at the moment specifically in Drafting, to a non-preferred status, which means that in order to continue to use it you will need to 'resurrect' it by going into Customize and dragging the 'Pattern' function back out onto the list of menu items under the 'Format' pull-down (or wherever you wish to have it located).

Longterm, there are plans to reduce its usage even more by making it harder to 'resurrect' but for now, it has simply been reduced to a sort of 2nd-class, non-preferred status.

As to what motivated us to take this step, it's a result of the implementation of the new Drawing Border and Title Block functionality introduced with NX 8.0. This approach is going to be the preferred solution going forward, but existing customers will be able to continue to use their legacy 'Patterns' but they will need to manually 'resurrect' them as I've described above. However, our advice is to review the new capabilities now available and to seriously consider transitioning using the new Drawing Border/Title Block approach. But you do have at least a few more releases before this will become even more complicated, however, you HAVE BEEN WARNED ;-)
