Hi John,
why the new impressive pattern feature doesn't support any sheet metal feature ?
How can I pattern tabs or flanges ?
Why the new pattern feature is not present in the sheet metal feature toolbar ?
Cut operation are supported in the new pattern feature in the SM environment ?
Why Solid Edge support ST in SM and NX8 no ?
To use ST toolbar I need to switch in modeling environment.
I think sheet metal program in NX is not so evolute as others mid-range CAD.

Thank you...

Cutting operations are possible, just do them in Modelling and go back to Sheet Metal. The typical sheet metal operations like e.g. dimples are not available YET.

In most cases you don't even have to convert to sheet metal after you added the patterning.

Hi frank,
sorry for my error in typing.
I wrote 'Cut operation are supported in the new pattern feature in the SM environment ?', but it's not a question, it's what I discovered.
The real phrase is :'Cut operation are supported in the new pattern feature in the SM environment'.

Anyway, as you can see, because you are a Solid Edge user, there are limitation in NX doesn't found in SE.

Thank you...

So if I understand this correctly, they did a major improvement in NX8, and in stead of being content about it, you complain that it's still not good enough?

I bet the developers will love to hear that...

Well, all I can say is be patient... a lot of good stuff is in the pipeline.
And NX is able to flatten anything while SE is not. That's what I discovered.
But you're correct; some features we had in SE weren't available in NX as a standard. one simple example: flat pattern maximum X and Y dimensions.

The new patterning functionalities are still history based in NX while I believe in ST4 it is only available in Sync (and more limited).

I only use sync for quick (and sometimes "dirty")editing in NX without ever loosing any history. ST4 has already become much better in this but still you're adding history on top of a sync model when you're combining sync with history.

I never want to loose any history of a model.
(In SE I never used Sync because of that reason)

To confirm; YES, there is a project which will provide future support for NX Sheet Metal features being used with the new Pattern Feature function. In the mean time, we have enabled the legacy 'Instance Feature' function while in the Sheet Metal module even though this function has been removed from the Modeling module. The use of 'Instance Feature' will be the interim solution until we have enhanced Pattern Feature.
