Nylon Ball Valve Seats in Sour Service?

Hi there,

Through my so far limited experience, I've noticed that most NACE, low temp, trunnion mounted ball valves in CL600+ come standard with Nylon seat inserts. I'm wondering: are Nylon seats in your typical NACE Low Temp trunnion mounted ball valve CL600+ suitable for sour design/service pipelines?

My client's specs call for RTFE seats for these kinds of valves, however I feel like they could save a lot of money and lead time if they accepted Nylon seats in sour service applications. When we order valves for them, they have to be modified simply to put the RTFE seats in because they come stock with Nylon seats which obviously adds cost and lead time. I have done some of my own research and although I still don't have a clear answer, I've got the impression that Nylon seats aren't suitable for sour service, which is strange to me considering the valve is considered NACE compliant (although I'm 99% sure that NACE MR0175 refers to only metallic materials in sour service). That just seems crazy to me that a valve would be considered NACE compliant and yet still not be suitable for sour service.

Any guidance on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
