Good Day,

i have a problem regarding the O - ring of our Transfer Pump of Spent Caustic unit. the O - ring expanded that caused to break the Mechanical Seal of the said Pump. the o - ring material was EP( Ethylene Propylene) and i checked that the chemical components of the spent caustic is compatible to the said material of the O - Ring. any other factor that may be the caused of o - ring expansion.

thank you and have a nice day.

You began by asserting a causality, then asserted that the causality is unlikely.

You did not include even a single number, dimension, product identifier, photograph, nothing.

I will get back to you when my Vulcan Remote Mind Melding machine gets back from the repair shop.

Mike, you find more info in the "material engineering other topics" (double posting).....

Fluid compatibility does not mean that the seal material will not swell/expand when exposed to the fluid. The gland size may not be permitting the o-ring to swell without overfilling the gland resulting in destructive seal pressure due to restricted seal volume change.
Apparently the o-ring needs more space into which to expand.
