I have to make an O-ring, but I'm using a Buna-N cord (widht 1/2 IN). The question is... How can i joint both ends?. I know I need a glue but which one can I use? and what are my options?

Thanks

What fluid are you sealing?
What pressure?
What's the circumference of the joined ring?

Circumference of the joined ring=201 mm
Pressure= 300lb
Fluid=Gas/oil/petroleum
Temp=+100ºF (max)
Transversal section of cord=1/2IN
cord Material =Buna-N
It's will be a Radial seal

Use cyanoacrylate adhesive, super glue. You can make a square butt joint or any scarf, angled cut joint. Use a very sharp cutting tool to make clean cuts.

That's a pretty small ring to be making the hard way.
Small enough to make by casting silicone in a wax mold.

If you have to stretch the ring much for installation, the cyanocrylate may be a problem. It's just about the least awful adhesive for o-rings, but you can't expect miracles.

I could swear that my '70 Mercedes used rings about that size to hang the muffler.

There are standard kits available to industrial maintenance people to make O rings -- this type of a kit would give you the jig to cut the ring- hold the ends in place and give you a starting point for your glue .

Contact the OEM of your unit and buy a supply of the properly sized o-rings depending on your useage requirements.

It takes longer $$$ wise to make one than the o-ring costs (usually)

O-rings are cheap why waste time on them?
