Hello guys,

Please, I would like to know if is there a way to obtain a surface from a solid. I mean, I have an irregular solid and want to get just its outer face and make it into a surface.

I tried the "surface offset", but the resulted surface is dependant on the original solid (if I delete the solid, the surface is also deleted, and I don't want this).

In other words, I need to open a solid, obtain a surface equal its external face, and save this surface in another file.

Anybody please can help me?

Thanks and regards,

Eduardo Torrecillas

You could extract the surfaces

Insert > Associative Copy > Extract
Then click on faces.

After surface extraction, edit and remove the parameters from the resultant surface so that the parent object doesn't get included in the new file.

My above advice is based on your not needing to maintain any associativity between the new surface and it's parent.

If you wish to actually 'delete' the original body, after you get your copied face, i.e. 'surface', go to Edit/Feature/Remove Parameters... and select the surface so that it breaks the link to the parent solid. Now you can delete it with not problems.
