OC device in the neutral 3

Seems like we've been getting more and more approval drawings from substation equipment vendors showing fuses in the neutral of the 120 V heating/lighting/receptacle circuits on these devices. We return marked up drawings with the neutral fuse removed. Is this just a case of international vendors being unfamiliar with USA single phase service? Or is this ever acceptable practice? Thanks.

A fuse in the neutral is never acceptable; you could blow the neutral fuse, interrupting the circuit but leaving energized conductors. You can use a 2-pole circuit breaker that interrupts both hot and neutral at the same time. Maybe they're confusing an ungrounded DC system with a grounded AC system.
