Placing a note with a generated leader does weird things. Namely, once the note is placed, the arrow line moves one end to the 0,0 point in my drawing.

Don't know what to turn off, turn on, etc. Once thing for sure, I won't contact Bentley, I'll just work around it and wait for V9...

Dave,

Out of curiosity, why the reluctance to contact Bently? I've had at least reasonable results from their Select service. Another option is CadGurus and Ask Inga.

Good question!

As a general policy for myself, I'd rather "figure it out myself" than ask someone else. I also don't have the authority to make purchasing decisions and am a sucker for upgrade salespeople.

Regarding Bentley, well, their website is a pain and it just takes too long for me to "refine" my search of their site pertaining to what it is I need to know - just like using the "help" that comes with the program.

Most importantly, my office runs the Bentley program (is it Microstation? Intergraph? gosh, this is confusing) off a network and I've experienced problems whose only solution rests with the networking (i.e., the Administrators) folks who simply are not at my beck and call. For example, IPLOT requires a complicated set-up that can only be done by our network office. So I give up until they've announced the fix. I HATE getting "your network people will fix it" as an answer. I also HATE having tech support try and sell me something when I need help with a bug that's incredibly unintuitive (like the one I've described).

That is why I am reluctant to contact Bentley.

I have to admit that I am a big fan of the "figure it out yourself" method. I've used that for most of my MS training, and as a result I think that I take a much more intuitive approach to any problems I encounter. Also, as CAD trainer in my department in the past, I was alway frustrated by newbies who refused to experiment and try to find the answer without first coming to me.

Anyway, I'm not that familliar with V8 yet, as Illinois DOT is still working in J, but I have done a little. Let's see if we can figure out what's going on here. First, some questions? How reproducable is the problem? Every time? Most of the time? Occasionally? If this is happening every time, it sounds almost like some sort of a lock is triggered.

Do you use Accudraw? That is a function that I am not at all familliar with, as I started with MS back in the V3.5 DOS days, when Accudraw wasn't even a gleam in Greg Bentley's eye.

Hope this helps you look in the right direction.

I like Accudraw about 65% of the time. It's a useful tool when you need, say a 19X6x1/2 plate drawn. I like it, but I have to turn it off when I want more "freedom" when I place or move things.

The bug I've described is pretty bizarre. I haven't figured out what's going on with the "place note" tool yet, but a way around it is to place the note and then change the shape of the note and put it where I want it. A serious PITA, this.

I do not use v8 but still want to shoot in the dark. Try switching off Dimension Association lock and then placing the note.
Sorry, couldn't help more. B-(

That doesn't change it either.

I played with various multi-line settings, dimension settings, etc. This is a vexacious glitch.
